Meditation

Meditation is the most powerful tool we can use to bring about peace for ourselves and our community. Living in the city, most of us lead quite intense lifestyles focused on our careers, our families and friends, and we forget to take time out to focus on ourselves.

IMG_1744_edited-1The development of a meditation practice of only 15 minutes per day allows us to clear each day’s turbulence from the mind before we begin the next. By taking control of our own minds we can cultivate an attitude that allows us to be natural, calm and compassionate in any situation. Meditation is like the glue that holds it all together. Sometimes it’s not always important to change what we are doing but how we are doing it.

IMG_1747_edited-1The DMY Meditation philosophy means committing to a simple practice of sitting quietly each day and practicing being a witness to our own thoughts. Imagine, for a moment, that ‘you’ are not your thoughts, that ‘you’ are in fact something different to the repetitive cycles that go on and on inside our heads. Imagine that ‘you’ have the power to calm your thoughts.  Imagine that you can be the master of your mind and not its servant.

DMY is committed to encouraging students to integrate a daily meditation practice into their lives. We offer an optional 15-minute morning meditation three times a week following our Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6:00am classes. Meditation is a key component of our retreat and teacher training programs. During these courses, we introduce participants to meditation theory, basic meditation techniques and a daily practice.

Our 40 Days to Personal Revolution program focuses heavily on meditation and becoming aware as a witness to the activity of the mind.  Our classes can also be considered a ‘meditation in motion’, an opportunity to still the mind, be totally present in your body and use your attention to breath to connect with the true self.

Through a consistent practice of meditation we nurture our ability to listen to the language of our hearts and reconnect with our true nature.
