Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Paula creates a real sense of community in her classes. Her instructions are clear her kind personality is infectious. She makes everyone feel welcome.”
Jon J.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Paula has high expectations for her students, and it’s great because with her help you can reach them. Her fun and friendly manner made class enjoyable and her skill at teaching the techniques kept inspiring and enabling me to improve.”

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Out of all of the yoga instructors I have come to experience, I have been most inspired by Paula. Her presence is both authoritative and soothing — a combination that most effectively guides one into a yogic state of mind.”
Christie H. G.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Paula has a true gift when it comes to teaching the Baptiste practice of yoga. She empowers her students to challenge themselves both mentally and physically – and to become stronger and more confident about their own abilities in the process.”
Cathy R.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“To be honest, I was not very interested in the whole “yoga” thing. It seemed to be way too trendy for my liking. However, I decided to give Dancing Mind Yoga a try and six weeks later, I haven’t missed a Tuesday or Thursday class yet.”
Eric B.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“I started yoga almost a year ago as a way to improve my mountain biking and rock-climbing, thinking of it more as ‘weight training.’ I had great results. Now I do yoga for itself and the help it does to my climbing and biking are just added benefits.”
Erin K.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Paula, thank you again for your leadership and frankness, the take-no- prisoners and requiring people to be honest way of doing things is much appreciated and not something you see people pull off successfully. It is appreciated!”
Jean K.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“DMY yoga practice has done amazing things for me physically—I didn’t think my middle-aged body could do half of what is now effortless. However, the totally amazing thing is what yoga has done for my head. Mentally and spiritually I am much better grounded, happier, and more alive. Thank you for introducing me to meditation!”
Mara B.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“I practiced at DMY 2-5 times per week throughout the pregnancy. I believe that doing Yoga at DMY has been a HUGE factor in why I have not had any morning sickness or any ill days throughout the last 9 months.”
Mara B.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“During 40 days Paula guided us through an amazing journey that opened up a space for me to feel more peace and joy in the present moments … on top of that, I was able to get in to great shape because of all of the extra yoga classes that I took during that time.”
Monika L.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“A year ago, I wasn’t able to find my peace of mind. One of my friends highly recommended trying to practice yoga. I did not know much about yoga at that time. That’s when I started looking for a good and clean yoga studio with nice people. Now I am one of the happiest people in whole world since I started practicing everyday at Dancing Mind Yoga. It changed my life both mentally and physically.”
Annise G.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“DMY has helped me to stay present and just be. It has helped me to recognize when I am going into my story and to let go and follow my heart. There are no words that describe the cleansing that takes place both physically and mentally.”
Patty F.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“I love the classes at Dancing Mind Yoga – in the beginning I was intimidated because it is very challenging yoga, but I have learned from the teachers to accept where I am and to keep coming. Yoga class is now the highlight of my day and I feel so much stronger and have virtually no body aches and pains – pretty good for a 53-year old! DMY is very friendly and welcoming, but also very well run and professional.”
Michelle S.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dancing Mind and Baptiste Yoga! I feel healthier, toned muscles I had forgotten about, and I feel like I shine! Paula – and all of the teachers at Dancing Mind – have so much joy and integrity in their work, they help each of us reach our best in yoga and in our lives. They are wonderful and I feel lucky to have found a place to become so healthy – in mind and body.”
Carol D.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“I started with DMY in July and it grounded me in ways I didn’t know something could. When I start to struggle in rowing races, I find my focus, breathe through the lactic acid build up and push through the difficulties. My flexibility and overall body awareness has not only improved my rowing and the way I feel, but also my general outlook on life.”
Mara B.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011“Paula’s classes are empowering, fun and an incredible workout for people of all levels. The teachers at DMY are really special people who I wish everyone could meet, as they have been a true inspiration to me.”

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I began practicing yoga in 2004, after finishing an 11 year competitive swimming career. I discovered power vinyasa yoga when I moved to Los Angeles and was hooked by the challenging physical practice. In addition to keeping me physically fit, yoga keeps me mentally and emotionally healthy. I wanted to be able to share my love of yoga with others through teaching and after moving from California to Virginia in 2008, I was able to make that dream a reality at Dancing Mind Yoga.
I enjoy teaching Baptiste Power Vinyasa because this practice can be modified to fit any person’s body. I practiced this style of yoga throughout my entire pregnancy and avoided many common pregnancy discomforts. I also enjoy challenging my students to reach new levels within their practices by connecting them to their breath, body and mind. I am continually amazed and inspired by the way yoga has changed my students and myself physically and mentally.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011When I was 28 years old, I was very overweight, out of shape and extremely unhappy with myself. I had become numb to what I was doing to my body. Not until I saw a picture of myself, did I realize that I no longer recognized that woman anymore. This was the catalyst that set the intention in motion for me to lose weight and get healthy by the time I turned 30. I quickly learned that diet and exercise only shed the physical pounds; yet there was a bigger weight problem to tackle—the one in my head.
Through the suggestion of a close friend, I added yoga to my life. I began to practice Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in Boston & Cambridge—that was 8 years ago. Yoga was the missing piece of the puzzle for me!!! The heat of the Baptiste practice allowed me to break free from the mental pounds that weighed me down. As each bead of sweat dropped, I soon discovered the Ursula that I thought was lost many years ago.
“Transformations in Progress”—I believe that is what each of us are. Our individual journey is a progression and evolution to get to our authentic and highest self. I believe that yoga illuminates the path where mind & body can walk together in harmony. I am deeply grateful to all of my teachers and students both past and present who have shaped me into a more empowered teacher and compassionate human being.
As a teacher I would like to share myself and my experiences with my students. My style is rooted in the strong technical base of the Baptiste flow combined with a loving space for my students to grow. I aim to challenge you physically, help you discover strengths you never knew you had, and have a good time in the process.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Yoga has transformed who I am into a more authentic and powerful person. I now embrace the challenges of life and am more willing and open. I also look forward to seeing possibilities open up when I stay the course. I teach to share this gift that I received through yoga with the DMY community. I find that by sharing my own personal trials and errors in my journey, others can reflect and see that we are all mirrors of each other.
At DMY, I show up BIG to help others realize their true potential. As DMY’s Teacher Assistant Lead Mentor, I am responsible for guiding our team of Assistants. I am also part of the DMY Workshops and Programs Leadership Team. I assist 40 Days to Personal Revolution, TAP, Teacher Assistant Mentorship and Teacher Mentorship as well as the 200 HR RYT Teacher Training Program.
I started my yoga career at DMY in 2009 under the mentorship of Paula Baake. At DMY I have taken Level I Intensive Teacher Training Program, the Teacher’s Mentorship Program, Teacher’s Assistant Program (TAP), DMY’s 200 HR Teacher Training Program (200 HR TT) and 40 Days to Personal Revolution. I am also under the mentorship of Mr. Baron Baptiste and have attended his Level I and Level II Teacher Training (TT) Bootcamp.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I began taking yoga classes in 1992. I practiced one or two times a week and loved yoga as a method of cross training and injury prevention for my other athletic endeavors of rugby, racquetball, bicycling, running, and weight training. In March of 2009, I took my first Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga class. It was the hardest yoga class I had ever taken, both mentally and physically. I loved the challenge.
I started practicing Baptiste Power yoga more frequently and whole-heartedly. My aches and pains from old injuries began disappearing and I felt stronger and more mobile than I had in years. I am grateful to those who have taught me. And I want to share with others the power and joy of integration of mind, body, and spirit via yoga.
In 2010 I began working towards a yoga teacher certification. I completed DMY Intensive Teacher Training, in February, DMY TAP Program in May, and have completed DMY’s 200HR RYT Teacher Training program in March of 2011 with DMY owner Paula Baake. I have also attended Level I Teacher Training Bootcamp with Mr. Baron Baptiste in June 2010.
It is my hope that in teaching and assisting, I will be able to give to others that which has been shared with me. That is how to have fun and how to deepen one’s practice physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Before yoga I was quick to judge. I would often be found beating myself up for not being perfect. I was living in the past and not allowing myself to grow. I was stuck in a world that was paying a toll on my health mentally and physically. Being dramatic and reactive was my way of being.
I began yoga after moving to the DC area in 2004. I learned the practice of yoga through the principal at the school in which I taught. I loved the athletic of the poses; this practice spoke to my former athletic self. In the beginning yoga was primarily a physical practice. I yearned for more as I became more forgiving of my past self. I became aware of my being.
I began to bring yoga off the mat and into my life while practicing at Dancing Mind. The Dancing Mind community brings such powerful energy and has helped me to open up many possibilities in my life. This energy of owning my power has transcended into my everyday living. I stand my ground and have learned so much about the real, authentic me.
Now that I see the authenticity in myself I see the authenticity in others. I have the yoga fever. This is a passion of mine in which I share with my students as I teach and assist. This is a supportive community that allows for the inner badass in all of us to shine!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011In my first year at Dancing Mind Yoga, I signed up for every program that was offered. I participated in two 40 Days to Personal Revolution programs, two Teacher Assistant programs, Level 1 Bootcamp with Baron Baptiste in Hawaii, and most recently the Spring 2011 Teacher Training.
Yoga has changed my life in many ways, and I am so thankful for a new awareness I never knew I had. I have more joy, gratitude and willingness in my life and most importantly I have learned how to be authentic and powerful.
Teaching at DMY allows me to give back the love and support to the community which it has provided me. Just walking into the studio door gives me so much positive energy that any negative feeling I may have immediately goes away. I am so thankful to be a part of the teaching staff to be able to provide ease and positive energy to my students.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I discovered yoga in graduate school as a stress reliever and a good exercise. During my first class at DMY, I connected to the Baptiste practice and enjoyed the challenging poses, the upbeat community and invitation to explore my mind, body and spirit connection.
Two years later, I continue to be surprised by the joy yoga brings to my life. Not only the physical strength and flexibility, but my mind is calmer, my outlook is brighter, and my relationships are more fun. It is through my yoga practice and the DMY community that I have grown brighter.
I teach Baptiste style yoga because it has enriched my life and motivated me to be a more authentic person. Through this practice I have found deeper connection in my relationships, a healthy dose of gratitude, and boundless laughter. I aim to offer DMY students a joyful and challenging practice.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I practice yoga because it brings me closer to truth: truth of where I am physically, mentally, and spiritually. I practice at Dancing Mind Yoga because of the Baptiste community and their dedication to personal growth. I have been practicing Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga since 2008, starting at MBody Yoga in Jacksonville, FL. It was introduced to me through a dear friend who, prior to my first visit to the studio, cautioned, “We sweat and sigh out loud a lot!” They certainly did these two things (profusely).
What kept me coming back was not only the physical workout, but also the practice’s relevance to everyday living. Yoga was no longer this mysterious thing, only for certain people who knew a certain language. The teachers made it accessible. This inspired me to partake in 40 Days to a Personal Revolution where I was able to take a good and honest look in the mirror, re-evaluating my beliefs, habits, relationships, friendships, unhealed emotional wounds, and general well-being. I attribute 40 Days to setting in motion my desire to lead a more truthful life.
I am blessed to have moved to an area where there is another Baptiste Affiliate Studio! In the fall of 2010, I began my journey at DMY and completed their 200 HR-RYT Teacher Training program along with my 2nd round of 40 Days. I teach at Dancing Mind Yoga because I am passionate about sharing the joy, personal power, and creativity that is possible through this practice. It is my intention to serve this community through my enthusiasm, compassion, and love for the journey of yoga and all who embark upon it. My growth and connection to others is relative, and I truly value the connections that are fostered in the DMY and Baptiste Yoga community.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I found yoga mid-2007, but I wasn’t hooked until I found Baptiste yoga later that year. I practiced intermittently while in school. When I moved home after graduation, I tried every yoga studio in my hometown to see if I could find one that I enjoyed as much as my former Baptiste studio.
To no avail, I joined a gym. When I landed a job in the DC area, I found DMY online and signed up before I even moved! I have been practicing at DMY ever since, participating in the 200 hour Teacher Training Program, TAP and 40 Days.
When I started at DMY, the assistants were my favorite part of the studio. They were always extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, not to mention totally awesome – – need I say more!
I wanted a chance to share the experience with others. I am grateful for the opportunity to assist and teach at DMY.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011After spending most of my time seeking wisdom in all of the wrong places I began to question my own ways of playing computer and video games twelve hours a day.
I decided to step outside of the room box and start doing something good for myself: exercise. I signed up for DMY’s $50 Intro Month and practiced as much as I could. After that first month, I took an All Levels Master Class workshop and became hooked. I started taking every program at DMY I possibly could, 40 Days, TAP, Teacher Training, etc… and here I am now, a teacher!
I teach and assist because I truly believe in the transformational power of yoga. I intend to give back to others as others gave to me. I will contribute to the community by being present and authentic, encouraging and inspiring others to do the same.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I began practicing yoga in 2007 when old sports injuries were taking the fun out of running. Yoga brought me an ease I hadn’t felt in years.
Curiosity and a desire to learn more brought me to Dancing Mind Yoga in 2010. The physicality of the Baptiste style drew me in, but the people I met that first day made the bigger impression. I completed DMY’s 200-HR RYT Teacher Training Program including 40 Days to Personal Revolution and the Teacher Mentorship Program. These programs recharged my sense of possibility and led me to action on things that matter to me.
I am exploring opportunities to work with kids and help foster in them a passion for physical activity and healthy living. The DMY community is inspiring and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve through teaching. My intention is to support my fellow students to find power, lightness, and joy in their yoga practice and be unstoppable in their lives.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I took my first yoga class in Santa Monica, CA in 1997 and loved it. I did a mix of Iyengar and Kundalini yoga for about year, then my wife and I moved to Washington, DC, bought a house, had kids, and I stopped sleeping and exercising. Needless to say, my yoga practice went the way of the dodo bird. About five years ago, I took up Aikido, which I had done in college, and enjoyed that until I developed back pain that simply would not go away. I decided to try yoga again to see if that would help. I tried a number of different styles over a period of two years, and enjoyed them, but my back pain persisted. After reading Baron Baptiste’s book, I decided to give DMY a try.
I came to the studio in August of 2010 and noticed immediate benefits to my body, mind and spirit. I love the intensity of the workouts, combined with the loving assists and gentle humor of the staff. My back feels much better and I have found a great community that makes going to the studio a true pleasure.
It is my intention to help my fellow students find their edge, heal their bodies, find peace in the hearts, and laugh a little when a pose (or maybe life itself) seems a bit too much to handle.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I took my first class at DMY in January 2011 and immediately signed up for the DMY teacher training program. I feel at home after each and every class. The teachers keep me coming back for more inspiration. As I am now emerging myself in this quest of yoga, becoming a TA for DMY is only natural. I’m super excited, and believe in the endless possibilities this opportunity will bring me. I continue to learn how to really stand in my own power. I bring my spunk and positive attitude to compliment the rest of the staff here at DMY.
I want to share the love of yoga through my assists as a reminder of how great it is just to be right here, right now, as you we are. Practice LOVE, LIVE yoga!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Three years ago I came to DMY. I was a critical care nurse and heard yoga would be a good stress reliever. While the physical benefits have been amazing, it was the enthusiasm of the DMY teachers that kept me coming back. Baptiste yoga is much more than a hot room; it has gifted me with the freedom to be “me” on and off the mat. I completed my 200 HR-RYT teacher training program at DMY with Paula Baake in Summer 2011 and look forward to attending Level I Bootcamp in the near future!
I am excited to assist so I can pass on to the students what DMY has given me. I hope to bring ease in my assists and encourage students to come to their edge— wherever that may be.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Upon attending practice at DMY, I felt an immediate and true connection I had not experienced before. Through the DMY’s teachers, teachers’ assistants, and workshops, I learned the correct way to breathe and to accept the principle: Let the Yoga do you. Practicing at DMY provides me with the ability to let go of tension, accept the sweat, and enjoy the awakening and strengthening within my body and mind. I am a teacher assistant to help others feel the power, the joy, and the comfort that DMY has to offer.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I began practicing yoga in 2006 and at the time, I was focused only on the physical benefits yoga could give me. Four years later, a yoga retreat in Thailand opened my eyes to meditation, the power of breath and the spiritual aspects of yoga which resonated with me deeply. I took my first Baptiste yoga class at DMY in March 2011. I was immediately drawn to the supportive, loving, and joyful environment. A few weeks after my first class, I signed up for TAP, and then the mentorship training.
I feel grateful to have the opportunity to join the DMY staff as a teacher assistant. I look forward to helping students find ease, space, power and to have fun!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I am a lifelong fitness enthusiast and started practicing yoga a few years ago to provide balance to my workouts and to keep me flexible. I took my first class at DMY on New Year’s Day of 2011. I was humbled by the heat in the room and the mental and physical challenge of the practice. I felt an instant connection to the friendly, noisy, and energetic DMY community and found myself returning again and again.
Since then I have participated in DMY’s Teacher Assistant Program (TAP), the TAP Mentorship Program, 40 Days to Personal Revolution, and a Baptiste All Day Immersion in Philadelphia. I am currently enrolled in DMYs Fall 2011 Teacher Training Program and I intend to take Level One Bootcamp with Baron Baptiste in June 2012. Yoga brings me peace and clarity and teaches me how to listen to and nurture my body, mind, and spirit. I am honored to be assistant teaching at DMY and excited about sharing my love for the transformative power of yoga.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I began my yoga journey at Dancing Mind Yoga in March 2009. At this point, I didn’t know the difference between an upward dog, a downward dog or a hot dog. The instructors at DMY are very knowledgeable, passionate and are excellent at helping new students feel comfortable. I practice and volunteer at DMY because I feel it is a workout for both the body and mind. I’ve learned, and continue to learn, how to live in the present moment and how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. At DMY, I’ve completed a 6-week Meditation workshop, Foundations of the Flow and am currently enrolled in 40 Days to Personal Revolution.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I have only been a true practicing yogi since 2010, but I already know I’ve found a lifelong passion. Walking out of the studio after my first class, I knew something in my life had changed. I’d never experienced such a mentally and physically exhausting, yet invigorating workout. It was so intensely personal, but I could feel the energy of the whole community, and it completely opened my heart and mind. I’ve loved every class I’ve attended so far and every teacher and student I’ve met, so I joined the Work Exchange Program to get more involved in the community. I look forward to getting to know more of my fellow yogis and growing in my practice at Dancing Mind Yoga.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Yoga has helped me capitalize on the awareness of my body. When I came to the studio to gather information I was intrigued by the atmosphere and the people. I purchased a mat and committed to a thirty day intro membership. After my first class, I came to value the intensity and challenge of the physical aspect. Work Exchange has allowed me the opportunity to solidify my commitment to my yoga journey.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I first started my yoga practice at Dancing Mind Yoga back in August of 2011. Though I had little experience and was quite apprehensive about attending a power yoga class, I found a very welcoming and accepting community that was friendly and supportive of my personal growth. I soon realized my practice was just a practice, each time offering a new and different experience full of possibility and growth, and void of competition and judgment. This is why I practice at DMY and why I began working here! I love the community and the passion that each teacher and staff member offers. I am inspired by the people that come through our doors and I am so grateful that I get to serve this community!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011I took my first yoga class at Dancing Mind Yoga in October with Catherine. This class alone got me hooked on the studio and the great community that practices here. For the first time in my life I walked out of a workout completely stress free and ready to tackle anything. Shortly thereafter I started working at the studio, and since then I have grown tremendously. I aim to bring playfulness and fun to the community and facilitate and help every student’s experience as they join us on the mat!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011As of right now my yoga experience is five months and counting. That’s right, I’m a newbie. I had never done any kind of yoga except for the stuff you find in iPhone apps. What brought me to DMY was the $50 Intro Month; what keeps me coming back is its community. Everyone here is a joy and inspiration. Since I started to practice I have been given tools that allow me to believe that I can transform. By working at DMY, I aim to give to others what was so freely given to me: the power of possibility.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Yoga has been an integral part of my life for over a decade. In the past two years, I have explored my practice on a new level by attending Level I and II teacher training with Baron Baptiste. The practice has challenged me to make each day and each interaction that I have with others more authentic and meaningful. I found DMY when I moved to the DC area from Rhode Island this fall. In Rhode Island, I was an active member in a Baptiste community and was grateful to find DMY so welcoming when I moved – a true home away from home that is quickly becoming my new home. At my old yoga studio, people called me “Sunshine” for the smiles and warmth that I brought into the studio each class. I am excited to be part of the DMY staff and to offer compassion, joy, and, hopefully, the occasional fit of laughter to the other members of the DMY community. Working at DMY is an opportunity for me to share and enjoy the growth and connection that accompanies yoga with others.
